A Cop Saves A Kitten From Being Labeled As “Bait” And Then Makes Her His Partner

When a woman found herself with three kittens she couldn’t care for, she decided to put an ad on Facebook to see if anyone was interested in adopting them. The first person who responded was a man who wanted to use the kittens as dogfighting bait. The woman quickly removed the post, but not before the appropriate individuals learned about the event and offered assistance.

Officer Andy Simmons of the Hillsborough Police Department in North Carolina was engaged in the rescue of a cat from a vehicle’s wheel well a few months ago and chose to adopt him right away. Officer Monty Sprinkles was his name, but Monty was in terrible condition from the start and eventually succumbed to his uphill struggle. Simmons attempted to move on after burying Monty’s ashes in his office, but he always felt like a piece of him was missing.

Mercy assisted Officer Simmons in his recovery following the death of Monty, and the two have loved spending as much time together as possible since the beginning. Mercy grew close to her new father very quickly, and she began following him around the home.
Officer Simmons told The Dodo, “She has a dog’s mentality and is very inquisitive.” “Like a herding dog, she follows me around and investigates every noise she hears.”

Cop Simmons decided to try taking Mercy to work with him because she was so connected to him from the start, and tiny Mercy became the newest officer at the Hillsborough Police Department.

Some of the other officers in the department were first hesitant to have a police cat around…

…but Mercy soon won them all over, and no one can fathom working at the police station without her.

Officer Simmons stated, “While the days and weeks passed, she began to bond with them, generally jumping on their shoulders as they sat, and that became the new routine.” “Officers always inquire about her whereabouts when she takes a day off or is absent from my office.”

Mercy enjoys spending time at her father’s office with him and playing on the jungle gym he installed for her. When she’s had her fill of that, she has complete control of the station and roams the corridors searching for people to welcome and officers with whom to socialize.

Mercy’s life may have taken a very different turn if it hadn’t been for Officer Simmons, but she is now thriving in her position as a police cat. In a manner, the two saved one other, and Mercy seemed pleased to spend the rest of her life with her new father.
