An Elderly Couple Was Found Guilty Of Poisoning Eight Of Their Neighbor’s Cats With Meat Pellets

The incident occurred when the defendants, aged 68 and 71, apparently agreed to end the lives of the animals. They poisoned eight cats belonging to their neighbor after throwing balls of raw meat with poison over the wall that separates the two houses, in the capital of Malaga, as indicated in the brief of the provisional prosecution of the public prosecutor’s office.

When we consider about the values that our ancestors impart to us and that are given by their experience over the years, a ghoulish plot to terminate the lives of some helpless creatures is not exactly the model of wisdom to follow. The importance of respect for all forms of life cannot be overstated.

A man and a woman from Málaga’s Avenida San Antón de Málaga were condemned to eight months in prison and a year of prohibition from any trade or profession involving animals by a Malaga court. They must also pay the owner for any medical expenditures that are incurred.

According to the resolution, they poisoned two felines in the owner’s garden, causing death due to circulatory and metabolic failure “consistent with the action of a poison.” Similarly, another cat had symptoms consistent with ingesting a deadly drug and died after being admitted to the hospital, as did two additional felines that had the same poisoning symptoms and perished. There is no excuse for causing such agony to innocent animals.

Pipo, Miranda, Blanca, Catalino, and Arturito were the victims, according to the prosecution. Carmela, Mati, and Coco are the three kittens who managed to save their lives thanks to the owner’s quick intervention, who performed a stomach lavage and took them to the veterinarian right away, but according to the public prosecution, they suffer serious consequences that require them to take medication and follow a special diet for the rest of their lives.
