Even with the greatest efforts of animal organizations and shelters, there are still far too many cats on the streets. Some are adopted and lead happy lives, while others are left to fend for themselves. The narrative had a pleasant conclusion for Barney.
Barney was a 6-year-old street cat that resided in Montreal, Canada. The kitten had a permanent scowl on his face and had had a difficult life. He had barely made it through the winters on his own and was in desperate need of assistance. Last winter, he was rescued from the street and taken to a veterinarian by kind Samaritans.
His vet visit showed a number of issues that needed to be addressed as soon as possible. One of Barney’s ears had been iced over and crumpled. He also had a few lost teeth and many battle scars from fighting with other cats for food. The veterinarians started him on medication in the hopes that he would recover completely.
Fortunately, Barney was in much better shape after a few weeks. Instead of the freezing streets of Montreal in the winter, the kitten was pleased to be in a warm shelter. The workers adored the cat, and he reciprocated with lots of hugs.
On the Chatons Orphelins Montreal Facebook page, you can see before and after images of Barney. Barney is a happy boy who has lost his frown. We hope that animal welfare groups will also wipe the frowns off the faces of other cats.
