Kitten Who Survived Wildfire Never Thought He’d See His Mom Again

Mayson is a lovely gray tabby cat who was separated from his family in Northern California due to the devastating Camp Fire. Laci Ping and Curtis Mullins, Mayson’s mother and husband, attempted to leave their home and pack up all of their beloved pets, but Mayson freaked out after hearing an explosion from a nearby propane tank and left.

The woman hurriedly went after the cat, but a fire crew in the area stopped her from continuing her search for safety concerns.

Ping explained to The Dodo:

“My heart was beating as he rushed away. I was unable to contact him. I’m not sure how he managed to get away, but he did. My thoughts immediately turned to the possibility of never seeing him again.”

The couple was devastated by what had occurred, not only because their home had been destroyed by fire, but also because they may never see their cat again.

Ping decided to publish Mayson’s photo all over social media in the hopes of locating him, and they ended up staying at a friend’s house with the rest of their dogs.

Ping stated,

“I spent hours browsing the internet to see if anyone had taken it up. After a few days, the UC Davis [School of Veterinary Medicine] provided a list of cats discovered.”

When Ping noticed a gray tabby with a patch of white fur near his lips in one of the images, he called the UC Davis office right away.

Ping stated,

“I immediately recognized his photograph. ‘That’s my baby Mayson,’ I thought. I knew it.”

They were nervously waiting in a clinic room when a vet tech entered with a package.

Mayson clutched to her mother’s neck while she hugged him, and the lady couldn’t believe she was back again with him. They both exuded delight.

Ping stated,

“He wrapped his arms around my neck and hugged me tightly. I was overjoyed. I really missed him. It was terrifying to consider what may have occurred.”

A kitten reunited with his mother after surviving a forest fire.
Mayson was severely injured on all four legs in the fire, but he is recuperating and will be reunited with his family in a few days.

Firefighters are battling blazes across the state that have burned 11,000 houses, left 1,000 people missing, and claimed the lives of 77 people.

Thousands of animals have gone missing, and firemen have been rescuing them in the hopes of bringing them back to their owners.

Ping would want to encourage everyone who has been separated from their dogs to keep seeking for them.

“I want them to never give up hope.” Continue looking and double-check every page he posts regarding lost dogs. It could take a lot longer than she expects to get her kid back, but it’ll be worth it. They are as eager to see you as you are to see them.
